Yoga

Yoga

Yoga means ‘union’ or ‘connection’. In Sanskrit, the word ‘yoga’ is used to signify any form of connection.

It is an ancient system of practices used to balance the mind and body through exercise, meditation, and control of breathing and emotions.

While yoga has an emphasis on activating the parasympathetic nervous system, occupational therapy encompasses goals and objectives toward functional independence, or living one’s life purpose. Both sciences accentuate the use of mind, body, and spirit in daily life in order to function in a calmer, more organized state.

When the mind is able to view the world differently, true healing takes place because we go beyond our conditioned states and connect to the fullness of who we truly are. With children, yoga has been proven to boost self-esteem, manage anxiety, improve emotional regulation, increase body awareness and mindfulness, enhance concentration and memory, develop strength/flexibility/coordination/balance, and reduce impulsivity.
